Poop Politics
Dear Dog Lady,
I read an article about a Connecticut state legislator who insists on bringing her dog to work, even though the dog is ill behaved and pooped in the state Capitol. The Democratic legislator, Edith Prague, refused to accept responsibility and blamed a Republican staffer’s seeing-eye dog for causing the mess. However, a security camera caught Prague’s Shih Tzu doo-ing the deed and the state senator was forced to apologize.
This poop-and-tell tale proves what I’ve always thought of Democrats – they throw the blame wherever they think it will stick. How can you stay non-partisan in this matter?
Dick, Washington, DC
Dick, tricky, but you will not fool Dog Lady into choosing parties. I can tell you that people such as Prague, who shirk responsibility for their pet, are not breaking any new political ground for dog devotees. We’re all one step further away from that national holiday, “Bring Your Doggy To Work Day.”
Senator Prague, reportedly, is facing a tough reelection fight. Already, her opponent, Republican Catherine Marx, has made the dog dirt dodge an issue. Marx boasts that she is more kid-friendly than pet-friendly, a pitch certain to appeal to some voters. Senator Prague’s sloppy dog manners make her vulnerable to this kind of insinuation about her fitness for office.
Footnote: Senator Edith Prague ultimately won her reelection bid.
