Sleepy La Beef

Dear Dog Lady,

What is the normal sleeping time in a 24-hour period of time for a miniature Schnauzer? Lucky Eugene is now 7-years-old and spends a lot of time snoozing day and night. He is exercised daily when we walk and run. He has regular vet visits and is in good health, as per his vet.

Ron, sounds as if Lucky Eugene has a good life from “A” to “ZZZZZ.” He’s getting exercise and long naps. If we humans could only bottle canine sleep stimulants, we’d have an Ambien for the ages.

A friend of Dog Lady’s used to say of his beloved terrier: “Oliver is nothing without his 23 hours of beauty sleep.” Dogs curl up and slumber – the longer, the better. Of course, you can always consult your veterinarian about this, but Dog Lady suggests Lucky Eugene is just doing what comes naturally.
