Time In A Bottle

Dear Dog Lady,

I have been told that dogs feel time differently than humans. If I leave my dog in a crate for, say, two hours, he sleeps and doesn’t realize how long he has been alone. I'm not sure I believe that. So my question: Do dogs have the same sense of time that humans do?
Lyal, Davenport, IA

Lyal, if dogs could save time in a bottle, the first thing that they’d like to do is to save every day ‘til eternity passes away just to spend them with you.
Excuse Dog Lady's Jim Croce moment and consider this: Our dogs experience time passing by spending time with us.

Dogs live in the moment. In one moment, they sleep. In another moment, they chase a squirrel up a tree. They remember yesterday -- at least what they learned. They have trouble thinking about tomorrow.

Time stands still for no man. But time stops for a dog when his beloved human is not around. Don’t worry about your dog looking at his watch, tapping his paws and wondering, “Hmm, Lyal, whassup? You’ve been gone for almost three hours. What the heck are you doing without me?”

Your dog puts time in a bottle when you’re away. And when you, his giant genie, magically appears, the clock starts ticking all over again
