Frontline Clarification

Dear Dog Lady,

In response to your recent answer about Frontline, [the topical medicine] is not released into the dog's blood system. It goes into the oil of the skin and collects on the hair follicles. From the hair follicles, it is released onto the skin and coat. When ticks and fleas jump onto the dog or cat, they are exposed to the chemical and die.

Maureen, Methuen, MA

Maureen, thanks for taking the bugs out of Dog Lady’s answer about Frontline. As she often says, Dog Lady is not a doctor, nor does she play one on the Internet or in the pages of this newspaper. Still, it would seem that as Frontline is applied directly to the dog’s skin, it would eventually make its toxic way into the bloodstream. Whatever. The stuff is strong medicine.
